Our natural treasure:The carob trees of the macollades in Olocau

( Tribute in honour of Josep Cavanilles paid by the Manor House, 200 years following his death)

In order to celebrate the year dedicated to the botanist, Josep Cavanilles, the Town Hall and the Sierra Caderona's Document Centre, the Institute of Studies of the Camp de Turia district, have organised this photograph exhibition ( taken by Valentin Rodríguez) and the documents related to the botanical world of the carob tree. The aim of the exhibition is to spread the knowledge of the invaluable patrimony of this collection of trees, more than a hundred years old, which grow in the macolllades surrounding the village of Olocau. The exhibition to be held by the natives of Olocau, is in remembrance of Josep Cavanilles, in appreciation of his descriptions of the area itself, the agriculture tasks carried out and how life was lived in Olocau in the 18th Century.

A look in the past:The Iberian watchtower located in the Puntal dels Llops

Counting on the collaboration from the Olocau's Town Hall, the Sierra Caderona's Document Centre and the Institute of Studies of the Camp de Turia, there will be an exhibition of the materials used to fortify the Iberian Puntal dels Llops, within the territory which belonged to the Iberian city of Edeta (Lliria)This watchtower was an equestrian aristocrat's residence, who with the aid of his overseers, controlled an important communication channel and at the same time, exploited the benefits of mining and forestry of the surrounding area.

Olocau: The houses and the surrounding landscape

(in remembrance of the 15the anniversary of this exhibition in Valencia's College of Architects, 1980-2005)

Thanks to the special collaboration offered by Luis Llopis and Matoses, and his camera, he recorded everything which he considered of the most important nature with regards to the architectural wealth of our village. Many more people offered us their idea of the patrimony, together with the children from Olocau, who by means of drawings gave us an idea about the contents of our houses and all this material was presented at the exhibition held in October, 1979.

In February, 1980, Valencia'sCollege of Architects took the decision to publish a brochure and to publicly exhibit, some of the items represented in the previously named exhibition. It was classed as ethnic work carried out with dignity, in order to remind us of the architectural and cultural patrimony itself, and the fact that it had beencarried out by a group of Olocau natives.

We consider that twenty five years later, it is a good date to remember everything that has and which has not taken place. This also enables us to understand the wealth which existed and that which has disappeared. The visitor will enjoy the exhibition and will also be able to wander round the streets of Olocau, to discover all those essential architectural elements of patrimony which identifies a community.
